„I love my bookshop“ – Der erste Kongress-Tag in Essen mit Begrüßung durch die Präsidentin des ICYB, Geschnetzeltem und Devil’ Advocate Burkhard van Rath. Es berichten Liesbeth , Barbara, Jeroen, Thomas und Reetta:

Our first seminar day started with the introduction of the congress by a speech by Elise de Bres, the president of ICYB. After that Stefan Könemann welcomed us warmly to

football-crazy Germany. We were introduced to the German book trade by Dorothea Redekers, Michael Reinhardt and Verena Sich. Emanuelle gave us a fantastic ‘I love my bookshop’-key chain, after which she explained the importance of IBF and EBF for all booksellers.

Just before and after an interesting meal, called “Geschnetzeltes”, we taught each other a couple of things about our local book trade situations.

Maria, from Athens, stormed through to present last year’s ICYB “Fellow” yearbook in her own funny way.

Our very own Devil’s Advocate, Burkhard van Rath, entered the room to challenge us for taking over the imaginary Buchhandlung Bücherwurm and to release it from its misery or turn it into the cultural cradle of Essen. We shake and tremble for our final judgment on Friday, but thank God we are in the good hands of the nuns of Kardinal-Hengsbach-Haus.

After Abendbrot we shouted “sex” and posed for the group picture. Then everyone gathered to look at pictures of bookstores all over the world…
